Acerola extract is produced from the fruits of Malpighia glabra. The use of acerola is mostly based on its high content of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant with radical scavenging activity very useful in the treatment of photo-ageing. Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an essential cofactor for the synthesis of collagen, proteoglycans, and other organic components of the extracellular matrix of tissues such as bones, skin, capillary walls, and other connective tissues.
